Software Engineer
We're growing our engineering team and looking for a strong generalist developer — no frontend-versus-backend hierarchy, just people who ship. Build the autonomous claims platform end to end, from real-time data to the interfaces where people and AI work together.
About FLINZ
FLINZ is building the asset management platform of the future: one ecosystem where fleet owners, leasing companies, rental companies, insurers and repairers come together. Our AI agent Wilma is being built to handle damage claims fully autonomously, from a driver's first report to the settled invoice, running on our own hardware. No portals, no ticket queues, no external AI providers.
We're a pre-customer, pre-revenue startup getting the platform ready for its first customer implementations. Behind FLINZ are four founders with a proven track record in fleet, leasing, insurance and digital damage platforms (including FleetMaster and UBench). Practitioners, not theorists. You'll notice it in how we build.
The team we're building
We're not filling a single narrow seat. We're growing an early engineering team where every developer owns features end to end. No rigid frontend/backend split: you'll move across the stack and shape the product and the codebase from the ground up. What unites us is strong software craft and a genuine affinity for AI.
- You own features end to end — from the data model and real-time backend to the interface people actually use.
- You translate complex workflows (damage files, planning, communication between parties) into fast, clear user experiences.
- You build the screens and services where people and Wilma work together: the routine runs autonomously, you make the exceptions transparent.
- You bring AI into the product itself — predictive analytics, smart insights, agent tooling — and into how the team works.
- You contribute to architecture, performance and scalability, with a short feedback loop straight to the founders and professional users.
Your technical playground
- React — modern dashboards and interfaces.
- Node.js — the backend of the FLINZ platform.
- PostgreSQL — robust storage with a schema-per-service approach.
- RabbitMQ for messaging between services.
- WebSockets for real-time data and notifications.
- Docker — scalable deployment of our services.
- Self-hosted AI for predictive analytics, smart insights and agents, on hardware we control.
You are our match
- You have 6+ years of experience as a software engineer, with proven full-stack depth on both frontend and backend.
- Solid knowledge of modern React (hooks, state management, data fetching, React 19) and strong TypeScript skills across the stack.
- Solid backend experience with Node.js and PostgreSQL, and a good feel for data modelling, service boundaries and API design.
- You've worked with microservices and distributed systems, and you understand the trade-offs around schema-per-service, caching, events and state. Whether that was with RabbitMQ, Kafka or IBM MQ matters less: the thinking transfers.
- You make design choices the team is still thankful for months later, and you can explain them. You also know when to leave a working system alone.
- You have a genuine affinity with AI, and ideally hands-on experience: LLM integrations, agents, or AI tooling woven into your own workflow. Experience with self-hosted models is a big plus.
- You love clean code and elegant solutions, and you're a fan of the KISS principle: sustainably less, rather than more.
- A strong feel for UX: you translate complex business logic into simple interfaces.
- Autonomy and ownership: you thrive in an early stage where you set direction yourself and bring others along.
- You're naturally curious about the domain (fleet, leasing, insurance) and about how data tells a story.
- Performance optimization and scalability challenge you rather than scare you.
- You value code-review culture.
- You speak Dutch and/or English.
What we offer
- A modern tech stack and clean architecture — no legacy, no ten-year-old technical debt.
- Complex technical challenges in real-time data processing and AI/ML integration, from data science to practical implementation.
- A direct feedback loop with founders and professional users who know the sector from the inside, so you build domain knowledge fast.
- Direct impact as one of the first engineers — you help define how the product, team and codebase look.
- Scale-up energy without corporate overhead.
